MORPETH

A gorgeous little town, with the main street occupied by more than 40 specialty stores intermingled between cafe’s, restaurants, tea shops and local produce outlets.

HISTORIC MAITLAND GAOL

Maitland Gaol has a vibrant history spanning more than 150 years. After housing some of Australia's most hardened and notorious criminals, Maitland Gaol closed as a Correctional Institution in 1998. The cell doors have now been swung open, with visitors invited to serve a small amount of time learning about the facility, past prisoners and daring escapes. Ask at reception for a brochure.

MAITLAND REGIONAL ART GALLERY

The Maitland Regional Art Gallery opened on 7 November 2003. It boasts a stunning main gallery with state of the art facilities enabling the Maitland community the enjoyment of touring exhibitions as well as its own very significant collection of contemporary Australian art. WALKA RECREATION & WILDLIFE RESERVE

Walka Water Works, as well as being a popular picnic and recreation area in the Maitland district, is also steeped in history that gives it a special place in the Lower Hunter's heritage.
